Dentures fitted in your own home
From first scan to final fitting, a new set of dentures — full or partial — without leaving the house.
Three visits, all of them at home.
For most people a new set of dentures used to mean four or five clinic appointments, each one a lift, a wait and a tray of cold impression material. For someone who cannot travel it often meant no new dentures at all, and a diet that slowly shrank to what could be managed with a loose set.
We do the whole thing at home. The impression is a digital scan. The laboratory is ours. The fitting is done where the patient sits every day, which is also the best place to check that they can eat with them.
Who this is for
- People who cannot get to a clinic — mobility, illness, frailty, distance
- Residents of nursing and residential homes
- Anyone whose old set is beyond relining
- People who have lost teeth and want a partial to fill the gap and protect the rest
What happens on the visit
Visit one — examination and scan
We examine the mouth, confirm that a new denture is the right answer, and take a digital scan. Shade, tooth shape and the fit of any existing set are discussed with the patient and family.
Try-in, if needed
For a full set we often bring a wax try-in so the bite, appearance and speech can be checked before the denture is finished. Partial dentures usually go straight to fitting.
Visit two or three — fitting
The finished denture is fitted and adjusted until it is comfortable. We check that the patient can eat with it — at home that means an actual meal, not a guess — and leave written care instructions.
Review
A short review visit a couple of weeks later catches any sore spot early. After that, the denture is checked at each routine examination.
Afterwards
New dentures take a few weeks to settle. We ask patients to wear them as much as they can in the first fortnight, to phone us about any rubbing rather than stop wearing them, and to take them out at night.
Cost and cover
Dentures are covered for many medical card holders under the DTSS, subject to HSE approval, which we apply for before the work starts. For private patients, Humm instalments and Credit Union loans are the routes families most often use. See what a visit costs and every way it can be paid for.
Questions families ask about this
If your question is not answered here, please give us a call — it is quicker than a form.
How many visits does a new set take?
Usually two or three, all at home — the scan, a try-in where one is needed, and the fitting. A short review a couple of weeks later.
What if the patient cannot cope with a scan?
The scanner wand is small and there is nothing to bite into or hold in the mouth. For someone who cannot manage even that, we can take a conventional impression with a fast-setting material. We adapt to the patient, not the other way round.
Can you match the old set?
Yes. If the old set looked right and simply wore out, we copy its shape and shade. If it never looked right, we will say so and suggest what would.
Arrange a visit
Tell us who the patient is and where they are, and we will phone you back the same working day with what a visit would involve and what it is likely to cost.
